Network 6G - a new standard of communication?

Mobile telephony has been accompanying us for over three decades. As this technology developed, new services appeared - initially it was only telephone conversations, then SMS news came, and today we can conduct live video call. ITU is currently working on another generation - a 6G network. What news will its implementation bring? What can users of this technology expect?

Although 5G technology is just gaining popularity around the world, the telecommunications industry is already working intensively on the next generation of wireless networks - 6G. The European Commission took up the main works in cooperation with the United States. It works on the preparation of Europe for the 6G network, ensuring that we are ready for new generation communication. It is a technology that is to revolutionize communication in an even more radical way than its predecessors, and Europe has the potential to become a leading global supplier of 6G, if it properly directs its investments. Well, the new generation will not only increase the speed of data transmission, but also introduce new, advanced services and applications that can change life, economy and industry every day. The first products and infrastructure are expected at the end of this decade.

What is 6g?

6G ( Sixth Generation ) is the sixth generation of mobile networks, which is to appear around 2030. It is expected that it will offer unprecedented data transfer speeds, up to 1 Terabita per second (TBPS) , which is a huge jump compared to the current 5G speeds, which reach up to 10 gigabits per second (GBPS). However, speed is only one of the features of this technology.

The key properties of 6G include:

  1. Low delays - 6G will reduce the reaction time in networks to levels below 1 millisecond, which will enable use in critical systems, such as distance surgery or autonomous vehicles.
  2. The ability to operate new applications - technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) will be able to act on an unprecedented scale, gaining full immersion and interactivity.
  3. Integration of artificial intelligence (AI) - 6G networks will be intelligent and autonomous. By using AI, they will be able to optimize their performance and adapt to the needs of users in real time.
  4. Hyperconnectivity - 6G will provide universal and reliable connectivity in places that are currently difficult to access, e.g. in rural areas or in distant corners of the globe, thanks to new solutions such as new generation satellite networks.

To sum up

6G is the future of wireless communication that will change the way we function every day and how modern societies work. This technology will open new opportunities for us in areas such as medicine, industry, communication and entertainment. Although its commercial implementation is planned only at the beginning of the 1930s, it is worth following its development today, because with high probability 6G will become a key technology for the global economy and social development.
