Al – evolution or revolution?

Artificial intelligence currently permeates every aspect of life, and experts and scientists consider it one of the most important technologies of the future. But what exactly is it, and how does it currently impact our lives?

According to European sources, as many as 61% of Europeans view artificial intelligence and robots favorably, but 88% say these technologies require careful management.

Artificial intelligence

What is artificial intelligence?

AI (artificial intelligence) is the ability of machines and computers to demonstrate human-like abilities, such as reasoning, learning, planning, and creating, among other things. One of the latest tools to revolutionize the market in this regard is ChatGPT. The application was created by Open Al and within days gained a huge audience. The chatbot program is used to generate answers to questions and topics entered by users.

Where does artificial intelligence occur?

Many examples of artificial intelligence could be cited, but one could also sum it up in one word: everywhere. Today's world is so interconnected that by utilizing one of the available options AI offers us, we actually influence other areas of our daily or professional lives, often without even realizing it. For example, it's important to use artificial intelligence wisely and remember that it can do as much harm as good.

Threats posed by artificial intelligence:

  • Errors: Artificial intelligence is not flawless. Consequences of using AI can lead to loss of health, property, or even life.
  • Disinformation: Artificial intelligence can be misused by the wrong actors. An example of disinformation is deepfakes—manipulated videos in which celebrities' faces are replaced using AI, which can lead to false accusations and defamation.
  • Unemployment: Artificial intelligence has also contributed to the first layoffs in workplaces, including those in the manufacturing industry, transport and logistics, customer service, and finance and banking.
  • Politics: Artificial intelligence can influence decision-making processes in democracies by analyzing data, predicting election results, or even manipulating public opinion.
  • Internet fraud: Artificial intelligence is used to steal data and hack into IT systems.

Are legal regulations keeping up with artificial intelligence?

The greatest challenge facing the world today is adapting legal regulations to the evolving nature of AI. The development of AI is not only a technological issue, but also a moral and social one, requiring institutional support and public engagement. There is a critical need to create explainable AI that will enable increased human oversight of AI systems' operations in the face of common threats and emerging issues. Implementing these regulations is essential to ensuring the safety, transparency, and ethical use of AI, both in economic and social contexts. These regulations cover various aspects, from the definition of AI to risk assessment and data and copyright management.

To sum up

Artificial intelligence is one of the most groundbreaking inventions of the 21st century. While this technology offers enormous potential, it also raises a number of legal dilemmas. Protection and security in AI are key aspects that must be considered when designing and implementing AI-based systems. Challenges related to data protection and privacy in the context of AI include legal regulations, ethical challenges, and safeguards against abuse.
